Ending the Cycle of Sexual Violence in Kenya

Valid8 is proud to continue its support of Freely in Hope, a faith-based nonprofit organization focused on programs that equip survivors to lead in ending sexual violence in Kenya, Zambia and South Africa.

The organization provides holistic educational opportunities for young women who are survivors of or vulnerable to sexual violence through academic scholarships, health care, safe housing, and trauma-based counseling. Freely in Hope scholars are high school or college students passionate about using their education to transform their communities toward a violence-free world. They equip their scholars to arise from oppression and achieve their academic dreams.

In addition, Freely in Hope establishes safe spaces of faith-based support that develops leaders through educational resources. Through leadership training on spiritual leadership, women’s rights, trauma healing, violence prevention, survivor resources, financial management, academic planning, and the art of storytelling, survivors and advocates are empowered to lead in ending the cycle of sexual violence.

In 2018, the organization was extremely active, for example, piloting their first sexual violence prevention curriculum, called ENEZA, in one high school in Kibera. The program was so successful that it is expanding in 2019.  Through the program, Freely in Hope was able to reach over 1333 students and children with a goal to reach 6000 in 2019.
