(www.valid8.com), a leading provider of telecom conformance testing software, has introduced an exciting new passive network diagnostic tool, the RTP Traffic Quality Analyzer. Offered in conjunction with Germany-based SOLINET, the Analyzer is ideal for quality and performance measurements in NGN and VoIP environments and components such as soft-switches, routers and gateways. The Analyzer is particularly beneficial when used in combination with other Valid8.com testing suites and products, such as the SIP Traffic Generator.

The SAFIRE-based system is easy-to-use, runs on a Notebook, and offers “at-a-glance” evaluation using SOLINET Weighted Quality Index (SWiQI). The SWiQI summarizes the quality metrics — such as jitter, delay and packet loss — per stream and total RTP traffic. Performance is then ranked on a scale from “excellent” to “bad” and detailed information for a stream can be presented in real-time charts or saved as a report (HTML).
Network engineers are able to evaluate all aspects of RTP traffic in modern NGN networks, helping them to identify poorly performing network segments and subnets, evaluate changes and upgrades in the network infrastructure, test client implementations at development stage and after deployment and measure network load impact on RTP QoS.
The network monitor includes a VoIP protocol analyzer for on-line capture and decode of the signaling in real-time, both during quality measurements and as a stand-alone tracer for live systems. “The Analyzer has enormous potential,” said Carpenter. “It allows the user to build usage profiles over time and to pinpoint problems where they originate, such as within the hardware or software, down to the individual phone set.
